Canned or Frozen - Making applesauce is easier than it sounds. The hardest part is peeling and coring the apples if you do not have one of those handy coring gadgets!
To start you will need to gather tart apples , like Granny Smith. Below is the recipe for Frozen Applesauce. I have to pick more apples and then I will record the canning process.
Easy Homemade Applesauce
- Use as many apples as you have on hand. (About 40 large) Wash,Peel, Core and Quarter. In a large pot toss the apples into a large pot. Add enough water to keep the apples from scorching on the bottom.
- Let the apples simmer on medium-low heat, stirring occasionally. Cook and stir the apples for around 30-45 minutes.
- Add 1/2 cup of sugar or more to taste.
- Let cool and add to freezer bags. Cool completely before placing in the freezer.
For a smoother applesauce run it through a blender, food mill, or food processor after cooking. For chunkier applesauce, remove it from the heat a bit sooner or mix in other firmer apple varieties
